What is SaaS?

SaaS is software that is owned, delivered, and managed remotely by one or more hosted service providers. SaaS is most commonly adopted to serve up a company's core business applications.

There is no software to buy, install, or maintain, so it is fast and affordable to deploy. It's secure and private, and offers data backup and data protection.

SaaS applications work particularly well in contexts where business processes are repeatable and adoption is highest in applications that support simplified, common business processes or large, distributed virtual workforce teams.

It is most commonly adopted to serve up a company's core business applications such as customer relationship management (CRM), digital content creation and office collaboration suites, enterprise resource planning (ERP), and supply chain management (SCM).

SaaS is making inroads in such emerging areas as office administration and integrated business systems.
